What are Quake Bots?
- Bots are computer controlled robots that can enter Quake games.
- Depending on their design they will help or hinder us, the human players.
- They are written in QuakeC and modify the basic Quake game.
- Bots require the full registered version of Quake.
If you're unable to get a decent Deathmatch game over the Net due to the dreaded lag, or just want to practise your DM skills then the Reaper Bot is for you. With this Bot you can take on multiple DM opponents. If you're lucky enough to get on a local IPX network, these Bots can be added to the server to spice up the game a bit.
Perhaps you're after some help with those very tough single player levels, well you need the Zeus Bot. This guy will follow you around a level and zap anything that threatens you. Zeus also does away with the need for cheats too... but of course you never use cheats anyway!
The latest version of the Zeus Bot can now be spawned as a Deathmatch opponent too. According to the author, Jonathan Wright, this is the final version, 2.05!
Quake Mission Packs bring Botability!
Unlike previous Quake add-ons, the new Mission Packs 1 & 2 allow Bots to be run with them. By using a line like
quake.exe -hipnotic -game rpbot
in a batch file, Mission Pack 1 will be loaded and the Bots added. When a Multiplayer game is started loads of errors scroll up the console, these seem to be from all the new and snazzy level features. So some parts of the level may be already open or permanently closed off. In my opinion, a small price to pay for getting Bots into new levels.
